After a big win over the Yankees, the Twins took the field against the Rangers. It was the start of a three game set in which the Twins play three times in three days. The Rangers sought revenge after losing their first match earlier this season.

The Twins jumped on the Rangers starter for three quick runs in the top of the first. Walks to Jared, Jake and Tommy set the stage for a big hit by Nick to score Jared. Tom and Kyle walked to score Jake and Tommy. Jake went to the mound with a 3-0 lead. The first batter hit a soft popup to Tom who handled it nicely for out one. A single by the second batter made Twins fans wonder if the lead would start to deteriorate. Jake faced the third batter, got the sign and threw a fastball over the outside corner. The batter timed it nicely and drilled a shot back to Jake. Jake caught it and calmly jogged over to first to double up the runner. This reporter notes that the best play would have been to throw the ball to first, but one doesn’t wish to split too many hairs over a double play! Overall, it was a great play by Jake to end the inning.

In the second, the Twins added a run with a walk to Isaac and Christian. Isaac stole third and eventually scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the second, the leadoff hitter hit a long shot to just over Nick’s outstretched arms for a clean triple. The batter scored on a wild pitch, but Jake settled down to quickly strike out the next three. After two it was 4-1 Twins. The Twins bats were silent in the third, and Jared came on in relief. He struck out the first two Rangers and after a weak single to third and a walk, he struck out his third batter of the inning. After three it was still 4-1 Twins.

The Twins were again shut down in the fourth and Jared returned the mound. He gave up a a single and hit a batter to put a runner in scoring position. A couple of wild pitches and the run scored. Jared settled down to strike out the side and Twins fans rejoiced. The Twins added a key insurance run in the fifth with a walk to Paul and Jared. A key RBI ground out to the pitcher scored Paul to give the Twins a 5-2 lead. Tommy came in from the bullpen and looked sharp as he quickly retired the Rangers with two more strikeouts. The Twins rejoice with their second win over the Rangers.

Coach Grossman was very busy preparing for two more games in the week and said “I really like how this team is coming together. We are starting to hit the ball and I expect to see more of this as the week progresses.” Coach Goldstein had even less time and said “Great game, hopefully we can keep this going tomorrow.”
