On a pleasant summer morning – the sun even almost came out the Nats took the field. The team was shorthanded without AJ, Isaac, Marek but they still looked good.

Tommy looked good to start the game and after a couple of walks settled own to strike out the last two batters. Eli, Luke and Alex all got on and scored on a big hit by Tommy. After one it was 3-0 Nats.

In the second, Kenta came on in relief and looked sharp as he struck out three batters quickly. The Nats picked up another run in the second as Eli doubled and Luke singled to score Eli. Alex singled and Tommy walked. With two outs the bases were loaded for Joseph. He smashed a scorching grounder to third, but the third baseman made a nice play and touched third to get the third out.

 

Kenta went back to the mound and after a single and walk, struck out two batters to end the inning. The Nats went down quietly in the bottom of the third so it was 4-0 Nats after three.

 

Eli came on to pitch the fourth and he gave up a single but quickly settled down to strike out the next three batters. Bottom of the fouth and the Nats picked up some insurance runs. Eli singled, Luke singled, Alex singled. Kent hit a hard shot up the middle to score Eli and Luke. Tommy singled to score Alex and Joseph followed with an infield hit to score Kenta. After 4 it was 8-0 Nats but there was still time so the game went to the fifth. Eli returned to the mound and gave up a single to center. The top of the order came up. The leadoff man hit a shot to short that bounced off of Kenta’s ankle. Runners on first and second, no out and Kenta had to come out of the game to ice his ankle. Nats fans were starting to wonder how this was going to end. Eli calmly struck out the next three batters to secure the shutout. Final Score: Nats 8 Athletics 0.

Coach Grossman said, “Well it was great to see the whole team hitting the ball and any time you get a shutout it means the pitching and defense did a great job. I’m looking forward to our matchup tomorrow with the Cubs. It should be a great game.”
